Carol and I have been part of Chilliwack Alliance Church since 2008 after serving Alliance churches in Mississauga, Ontario; Marwayne, Alberta; and Surrey, Vancouver, and Kelowna, British Columbia. I am a grad of Canadian Bible College (now Ambrose University) and Trinity Western University.
Our three children are married and giving us adorable grandchildren. It's a great time of life!
The Thronesses are sports fans: hockey, football, car racing... I am a hot rod buff with an old international Harvester. I've always enjoyed diecast car collecting - the thrill is in the hunt! We also love to travel, with Israel being a favourite.
As Executive Pastor, I have the privilege of working with a great staff here at CAC in the areas of finances, human resources, leadership, and administration. As Worship Pastor, I am passionate about music and intimate worship of our God in the church community. True worship is a lifestyle and a choice we make every day as believers. It is my goal that the music at CAC continues to give glory to God in all that we do.
After graduating from Trinity Western University in 1997, I have had the privilege of heading up the music and worship at Coquitlam Alliance, Burnett Fellowship Baptist in Maple Ridge, and now for the past 10 years here in Chilliwack. I have been happily married to Jennifer since August, 1996. Together, we have raised three amazing boys...Terrell, Parker, and Riley. They are moving all too quickly into adulthood.
In my spare time I love to spend time with my family and enjoy each new stage the boys grow into. We love camping (especially in new places), canoeing, hiking, fishing, eating, sports, and sitting around the campfire!
As the Senior Associate Pastor, I get to work with the staff to pursue the mission of the church, while also leading the Care Group and Discipleship ministries of Chilliwack Alliance. Since coming to CAC in 2015, I have come to love the people of this church, and the pastors/staff that serve here. We are truly blessed in this! So many people here are willing to serve in ministry, and to support one another in times of crisis and need. God is moving in this place. May it ever be so!
On the family front, Sharilyn and I were married in July, 2002, and since then have added four amazing people to the world! Thomas (2004), Ella (2005), Katrina (2007), and Naomi (2008) are frankly fantastic, and we love them dearly. Sharilyn is musical and capable in so many ways, and serves in the church in her areas of gifting and passion. She even gets me out of the house to go hiking or to do the Promontory stairs! Hiking is one thing, but the Promontory stairs? I just… I don’t know… why the stairs? Together, we have served in Alliance churches in Kelowna, Auckland (NZ), and now Chilliwack.
I’m glad that you’re looking into our church. I’d love to meet you.
All my life I knew I wanted to work with kids, didn’t know how it would look, but knew that kids was where God has given me a passion. I never expected it to be in this way, but God planted the seed in me in 2007 when I was attending Hillsong Bible College, and it was then I realized He was calling me into Children’s Ministry. I graduated from Columbia Bible College in 2012 in the Biblical Studies program with a minor in Children’s Ministry, and have been very much enjoying working since then as the Children’s Pastor here at CAC.
I have a very supportive husband, Dain, and we have two amazing, energetic sons, James and Jude, who keep us on our toes. We enjoy watching sports and going on family adventures.
When I was a youth I attended the Chilliwack Alliance Youth group. I can confidently say I met Jesus at those Thursday night meetings. My hope is for exactly that; the youth today need to encounter Jesus in a real way – a way that isn’t fabricated – a way that lasts.
I met the love of my life when I was 15, and got married at 23. Her name is Jenn and you will be seeing her around ministering to the young students in our church, and in the women’s bible studies. We both love to pray, read, and go on long hikes out in our beautiful back country. Our greatest joy is to witness the work and power of the Holy Spirit in the young students around us.
We are encouraged to be part of this team and would love to grab a coffee with you!
As the youth intern, I get the privilege and honor of working with Pastor Joe and the youth leaders to serve the youth at CAC as they discover and grow in their relationship with Jesus.
I was born in Singapore and grew up in Vancouver, BC. Growing up as a Pastor’s Kid, I struggled with church during my teenage years as I navigated my cultural identity and personal identity in Christ. In God’s grace and mercy, He led me back to the Church and has taught me how to love her as Christ loves His bride, despite all her brokenness. God has blessed me with an amazing home church and family in Victoria Chinese Alliance. As I served more and more, I felt called by God to go to seminary to dig deeper into His word and be equipped for the ministries that He desires for me to serve Him in. This led me to pursue a Master of Divinity at Ambrose seminary in 2016. God has blessed me with an internship placement at CAC as part of this degree and God willing, I will graduate in 2020. I desire to shepherd and disciple believers and seekers, spurring them into a deep and vibrant relationship with God, and equipping them to faithfully serve Him in all things.
In my spare time, I enjoy playing the guitar and spending time with friends over board games, hiking in nature, jamming, and simply enjoying fellowship.
I believe in the church and I am thankful that I can serve the Lord in these ways; advocating and helping our people engage in missions and providing space for young adults to learn about what it means to be a disciple of Christ and their part in the church. I also work with a student mission organization called Reign Ministries. I get to haul kids around the world and journey with them as they encounter the living God in and through cross-cultural ministry. This has taken me to the United Kingdom, West Africa and China. To say I enjoy my jobs is an understatement.
I am a bit of a travel junkie. I love experiencing new things (except jumping from a perfectly good airplane). I enjoy people and sharing what I love with them (especially food). I think my parents would say I am (was) a great kid. I know God to be good and I know His hand in my life. I count it a privilege to serve alongside you in this part of the life of CAC.
I have been part of Chilliwack Alliance since August 1994 after relocating to Chilliwack from Ontario. In 2000, I graduated from North West Bible College (part of Trinity Western University) with a Bachelor Degree in Religious Education and Pastoring.
Over the years I have served as an Adult Sunday School teacher, a member on the Board of Elders, and for the past 3 years as the Vision Director responsible for long term strategic vision planning and overseeing our Vision Tree Ministry which encompasses opportunities for people to engage in Kingdom focused projects around the globe.
Andrew and I moved our family into the church neighbourhood (Parish) in March of 2014. We are raising three sons: David, James, and Daniel. We were married in 1999 and have lived in Seattle, Portland, and Singapore. I began to serve at Chilliwack Alliance Church as the Neighbourhood Coordinator, encouraging the love relationships between members of our congregation and those who live in our neighbourhood. In 2015, I completed the Leadership in the New Parish Certificate from the Seattle School of Theology and Psychology to better understand the vision and scope of neighbourhood ministry. This led to a deeper hunger for Biblical knowledge of spiritual care, and I enrolled at ACTS Seminary in Langley to study Chaplaincy. This is a very rich season of my life with great overlap amongst raising my family, loving my neighbours, and serving my Savoir through the local church.
The role of the Parish Chaplain is to provide spiritual care for those who live, work, and attend school in our neighbourhood. This is done by empowering members of our congregation to live out their faith through practical acts of service. Our neighbourhood is currently defined as the Robertson Elementary School Catchment. It is the civic hub of Chilliwack and includes City Hall, RCMP offices, the ambulance centre, the School District Office, and the airport. In addition, I seek to collaborate with the schools, churches, government offices, and small businesses in our neighbourhood to weave together the fabric of care for all of our inhabitants.
